Why bother to clean gutters?

Well, if you are lucky like me you may not have to worry about gutter cleaning. My house is far away from any big trees. Thus, most leaves are unlikely to land in my gutters.

However, if your house is near some big trees, then you had better get your gutters checked out and cleaned from once a year or twice a year depending on what sort of trees.

Don’t wait until your gutters are clogged by leaves. Why?

1. The clogged gutters will cause rain water overflow into the ceiling of your house. This is the common cause of mould appearing on the ceiling. Mould are healthy hazard to our health. If you saw any mould on the ceiling, never just paint it over. It simply does NOT work. Mould need to be killed before doing any cosmetic repairs. The worst case I saw was a rental property. The house owner was reluctant to clean the gutters and ended up rain water went into the ceiling of that house. Then mould started to appear in several part of ceiling. The final repairs cost him several thousands dollars.

2. Some gutters jammed by leaves and then clogged the entry of downpipes. When a sudden storm strikes, some of these gutter fell to the ground and became distorted. The distorted gutter will cost you much much more than the money costs you for gutter cleaning. Most likely, tradesman will convince you to replace a brand new gutter instead of repairs. This is understandable as it makes sense for money making.
